1) Yarada Beach
This beach offers serene beauty as it is surrounded by hills on three sides and Bay of Bengal on the fourth side. Also, there is a lot of greenery and although it is said that one should not watch the sunset, do not miss it as the view is scenic, even better than the sunrise view. You will feel excited on the way to this place; as you will go through armed forces settlements with ups and downs! This is a picture-perfect beach. The only drawback is you won’t find shops for refreshments; though there is a resort, you have to pay to get in and you can buy things over there.
2) The Submarine Museum
The Submarine Museum is the first submarine tuned to a museum in the whole of Asia and second in the World. INS Kusura is a Russian built submarine which has been converted into a submarine. It was earlier brought to the sands off the Vizag beach shores from the sea. It was not an easy task and it required the best of the scientist from defense labs to complete this task.
3) Borra Caves
They are located 90 km from the city at the Anantagiri Mandal are one of the best places to visit in Vizag. Borra Caves are en route to Araku Valley and it many prefer touching both the places in a single go! The Caves are just 29 Km on road from Araku Valley. Rocks at Borra Caves date back to a million years. The Scenic splendor is all visible right from your train journey. Situated at 1400 mts above sea level, Borra Caves were discovered by William King George of the Geological Survey of India in the year 1807. Gosthani River which originates above the limestone foundations is given the legendary name GOSTHANI as it resembles the udder of a Cow while flowing out of the caves Deep in the caves, a Shivalingam and an idol of a Com (Kamadhenu) can be found.
The caves are colorfully illuminated with electricity by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. There are mica mines in and around Borra village and it is believed that there are immense possibilities of mining precious stones like rubies here. A big project known as the Thalipudi Reservoir scheme is being constructed at cost of Rs 4.5 crore across the river Gosthami at Thatipudi.
4) The Araku Valley
It is located on the Anatagiri hills at a height of 1,161 mts from Sea Level is the place with the best natural scenery and greenery can be found. The Valley is located 112-Km from Visakhapatnam and has Waterfalls and streams which give a pleasant feeling to the mind. The 17 tribes living in this valley wear colorful dresses and costumes and were untouched with modern civilizations. Their rhythmic songs and tribal dances, the Dhimsa dance, in particular, are just marvelous.
5) VUDA Park
It is also called Taraka Rama Park was named after former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Sri N T Rama Rao. The Park is developed by Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) near the Rama Krishna Beach in Visakhapatnam. The Park is one of the best places in the city to enjoy with family on weekends. With a green playfield, artificial caves, beautiful long lawns, flower gardens, and a children’s park, boating and swimming facilities make this park a good place to spend time.
The Vaisakhi Open Air Auditorium is the place where musical concerts are held. Musical classes in Classical Telugu are often organized here by Vaisakha Kala Vedika Trust. The Musical Fountain which zooms up colorful water to the tune of cool background music is another attraction. Played daily at 6:30 PM, the musical fountain has an entrance ticket of a mere Rs. 5/- with which you can stay for an unlimited time.

6) Dolphin Nose
It is a conspicuous landmark in Visakhapatnam. The Dolphin Nose is a huge rock headland 174 meters high and 358 meters above sea level jutting out into the sea resembling the shape of a dolphin. The powerful beacon of the lighthouse set on the rock at Sea directs Ships 65 kilometers away.
7) Simhachalam Temple
It was built in the 11th Century, where the Lord Varaha Narasimha Swami’s temple is located, resembles the rich cultural heritage Visakhapatnam holds. Located on the Hilltop, at a height of 244 mts, popularly called the Hill of the Lion Lord, is the temple of Lord Vishnu in the avatar of Sri Narasimha Swami varu. Millions of devotees from around the world visit this temple every year especially during the Chandanotsavam Festival Season. On the annual ritualChandanotsavam day, the Lord is covered with a new fresh layer of Sandalwood. History says that Prahlada – a devotee of Lord Vishnu was being tortured by his father. Lord Vishnu in the avatar of Lord Nrusimha kills Prahlada’s father and saves the child. Dharmapuri Sheshachari wrote the Narasimha Satakam – a collection of poems on the Lord.
8) Indira Gandhi Zoological Park
It is a good location to spend time with animals -, particularly Sunday mornings. The one of the largest Zoological Park in Andhra Pradesh – next only to the one in Hyderabad and has a rich and varied collection of Wild Species including the Indian Tiger, Deer, Elephants and other attractions from Australia. Spread over 425 Acers of Land, the Zoo park is a host for over 400 varieties of animals.
The Zoo Park is nearly a 6 Km drive from RTC Complex. Busses (both run by the APSRTC – the State Transport Corporation and the Tourism Department) will help you reach the Park. Best time to visit would be in the months of November and December. Zoo Park has some of the best living animal and marine species and is one of its kinds in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The park is refreshed with a fresh collection of animals from the forests of Africa and Australia.
It is a large water tank located at a distance of 5 km from Visakhapatnam. This beautiful site near a lake nestles amidst hills and palm trees. There are pretty parks full of beautiful flowers and different types of trees, fountains, birds, and peacocks in cages as well as several picnic spots.
