5 Precautions to Take While Travelling to Manali
Manali, as we all know, is a popular hill station frequently visited by tourist from both India and abroad. It has everything for everyone. Be it adventure enthusiast, nature lovers or photographers. But, there is another side to Manali as well. It is a growing hub for the exchange of drugs like hashish, cocaine and marijuana. There have been incidents where tourists have been robbed and even murdered. Rave parties also happen that too and there is a strong nexus between the locals, police and the mafia. 1) Stick With Your Group
Wandering in hills all by you might sound a very attractive. But, that also makes you an easy prey as well. Having your friends around will make sure that nobody sets an eye on you. Mostly, drug addicts rob tourists of their money. They operate in groups of 3 to 5 and it is difficult for one person to tackle them.
2) Never Leave Luggage Unattended
Make sure that you always have an eye on your luggage. This is because many a time cases have happened that drugs have been planted on the tourists and they have been later released only after they paid a hefty sum of bribe to the police. These drugs can be planted by peddlers or sometimes even police also.
3) Interact with locals cautiously
Locals are very friendly and warm to guests, but among them there are some peddlers and addicts. Some foreigners are also there who have been living in Manali for years. They live there because of the cheap cost of living and carrying out the drug trade. Make sure that you are alert while talking to them and try not to share your travel related information with them.
4) Plan The Trip In Advance
Make sure that you have booked your hotel and tour guide beforehand, this way you would not be left in the lurch at the last minute. Why this is important is that there have been cases where tourists who arrived without any bookings were taken to a lonely spot on pretext of getting them a hotel and a then robbed.
5) Do not Wander To Far Off Places
It may sound a little conflicting as Manali is all about exploring the unexplored. But, make sure where you are going. Getting lost in the wild in the name of adventure is nothing but utter carelessness.
