Important Facts About India’s Republic Day Worth Knowing
Republic Day is around the corner and preparations for it are in full swing. From republic day parade preparations to jhankis, to television channels telecasting new movies on the day, we can see and feel the republic day 2017 approaching everywhere around us. However, before we prepare ourselves for this day, here are few important facts we all should know.
The reason why it’s celebrated on 26th January is to celebrate the Purna Swaraj Day, which was earlier planned for January 26th, 1930 at Lahore.
Despite India got independence in 1947, the first republic day was celebrated three years later, i.e. on January 26th, 1950.
It had taken 2 years 11 months and 18 days of immense effort and wisdom for the team of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar to complete the draft of Indian constitution.
The manuscripts of the Indian constitution were signed by 308 members of Indian assembly on January 24th, 1950.
Our national anthem, Jana Gana Mana, was officially adopted as the Indian national anthem on January 24th, 1950.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first president of our country was sworn in as the president on January 26th, 1950.
The republic day celebrations take place over 3 days and are concluded on January 29th every year.
The world famous parade on January 26th was first held at Rajpath in 1955.
Our national language, Hindi, was declared as the national language on January 26th, 1965.
