The first teacher’s day was celebrated when President Radhakrishnan assumed his office in the year 1962. He was the first vice-president of India and succeeded Rajendra Prasad to become the second President of the country. Sir Radhakrishnan also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University and Banaras Hindu University. He was finally conferred with Bharat Ratna in 1954 and he was also nominated 11 times for Novel Peace Prize until he passed away in 1975.

Radhakrishnan was born in 1882 in the state of Andhra Pradesh in a small town called Tiruttani. In his early days of life, his father wanted him to take the role of the priest but his talents brought him to Tirupati and later Vellore to study. Finally, he joined the Christian College of Madras to study Philosophy.
